Well, I wanted to wait until he updated again, but since the assignment is due tomorrow, I guess I better just go ahead.
ultramicroscopic is the personal blog of Griff, a graphic designer with a family. And an amazing sense of humor. Seriously, I should have been done with this entry about an hour ago, but I was too busy paging through the last few months of his archives (many of which I've already seen) and laughing hard enough to make the neighbors curious. You may have noticed by now that I have a certain affinity for humorous weblogs. Well... here's the one that pretty much tops my list. Check out this post for a sample.
Griff's done a lot of things with his blog. It's not just an online journal for him; he's also used it for other purposes (selling and/or trading original artwork [see the comments on that post] and announcing the arrival of his new son, for instance). It's partially self-expression and partially self-promotion, and it works very well, especially for someone whose business is not only design but (as far as I can tell from some of his posts) web design. He frequently posts his own drawings to the blog, so you can get a good idea of what his work looks like.
Similar to the first blog I reviewed, ultramicroscopic uses MovableType and employs categories as a way to organize posts. Now that I've had a little more of a chance to think about it, I'm starting to really like the categories thing. At least, it made it a lot easier to find the posts that I wanted to mention here. And I applaud anything that makes my homework easier. Good ones to check out here are Why I Love My Wife and Ultrahumor. Actually... they're all pretty good...
One thing I noticed is that Griff relies very little on links. His posts rarely contain them, and his sidebars have a total of seven outside links mentioned. But then again, his content rarely depends on anything but his own thoughts and creativity, so links aren't really necessary.
So... yeah. This is another blog that I really enjoy reading, and I hope he starts updating again really soon (must be hectic to have a new kid, though, poor guy). Okay, last link: Griff's thoughts on weblogging, a la Tyler Durden. Warning: may directly contradict some of what we're talking about in class. Don't blame me, I didn't write it.
