My poor mother...

Yet another one of her kids has flown the nest, and she's taking it sort of hard. Katie left a little bit ago to go down to Chicago to start school at Columbia College, and took dad and my uncle Scott with her to help move her into her dorm apartment thing. Mom's worried about her, naturally, especially since she's a small-town girl going to the big city (yikes, sounds like one of the writing examples from Fiction I). I'm not sure, but I bet she was exactly the same way when I left to go to New Mexico for my first year, and when I left to go to Bemidji for my second year. And third year. It's things like this that make me more sure than ever that I could never bear to be a parent. Letting go is not one of my specialties.

So I guess I'm glad I'm here at home with her this weekend. Dad'll be home sometime late tomorrow night. 'Til then, I'm the second responsible adult type here. Hopefully I can be of some help.
